It's a hard NO to be barrel jeans. They look like clown pants. Straight leg, bootcut, flare, wideleg, stovepipe, all are good.
Wow – you did a lot of work on this one!! Lots of helpful info. I myself at 5'0" actually have a couple 'gentle' barrel pants that I love. Go figure — I didn't know they were barrel when I bought them; I just loved how they felt to wear. If you'd asked me, I would've told you barrels are hideous and I wouldn't be caught dead in them. Never say never, right? I do happen to be an inverted-triangle shape, which I realized only recently. It explains why I never felt comfortable in puff sleeves, I guess — they make me look like a football player! It helped to hear you validate this 😊 Oh, and I've always wanted the scoop on stovepipes

I will try just about anything on your recommendation but not that.🤪 The straight legs are still me Mom jeans vibes but I’ll have to desensitise myself. I just placed my first Quince order (and gave you credit for the referral). I am SO PLEASED! The Bella Stretch straight leg jeans in a dark wash are absolutely PERFECT. I also got 3 modal v-neck tees and they are super soft and fit perfectly. The 3 tees purchased together were $12 each. The quality is great and the pricing even better. I also bought the WalMart pointelle cotton sweater in pale yellow. Again, pleasantly surprised by the quality. Thank you for helping us navigate the fashion world!
Can you recommend a stovepipe jean with a lower or midrise? I’m only 5’ tall with a short torso and thicker waist. Fun, right? (12 petite from Talbots usually fits, but not many midrise styles available!)

I’m very short waited and I have very long legs and I actually like the barrel jeans. I just wish they would all come a little bit longer.
I absolutely cannot stand high water, jeans. Call them cropped call them whatever you wanna call them but ladies if you’re over 50 you remember the 80s when somebody had on a pair of high water jeans you called them an idiot or a geek I couldn’t get past that every time I see a pair I think they look horrible and no shoe looks good with them

Can you share more about why those with long torsos should opt for mid or low rise for stove pipe jeans. I have a long torso and short legs and opt for super high rise for all of my jeans to give the illusion that my legs start up higher. I’m curious why stove pipe jeans are different.

I'm 74 and struggle finding pull on shorts to wear when hanging out at home home with a 7 inch inseam in a breathable fabric. I'm not a fan of linen…I have my own wrinkles!

I’m petite and two barrel pants that I have been loving that I can totally wear are the Athleta Skyline and the J Crew Zoe Barrel. The over exaggerated barrel is out!! It’s much more wearable now.

Yay my jeans are back in style. Though, we always just called them straight leg jean. I've never worn anything else. Perhaps a skinny or boot cut for about a minute, but always a bigger fan of the straight leg. Even when they weren't "in style". I've just never been a trend chaser. More of a classic style girl. Sorry, but I find the barrel jean as repulsive as the bare shoulder tops from a few years ago.
For 2 years I’ve been a naysayer for the barrel jeans. I’m 5’1 and curvy. My style is classic with a bit of an edge. Also, I’m older.
But, while shopping in the clearance at Ross I saw a great dark blue denim jean , labeled barrel I was wearing kitten heel suede boots and it looked like they were my perfect length. And the price. Regular price 98. Marked major clearance $13.99 the end story is I love them! They elevate my style and so freaking comfortable. I’ve worn them 5 different ways,days. Every time I’ve Received a compliment on my outfit. Every time. I’m just saying try a pair. I was a no way person. I agree some are outrageous. 😎🪄
